INPATIENT CLINIC

Our department is planning to serve around 15000 polyclinic patient and 1000 inpatient anually. Pulmonary Function Laboratory, Bronchoscopy Unit and Sleep Laboratory are planned to provide diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services to patients in different areas of Pulmonary Medicine.

SMOKING CESSATION

Smoking is undoubtedly one of the greatest preventable health hazards our society faces. Among the many ill effects of smoking, it significantly contributes to the development of heart disease, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer. Because smoking is such a difficult habit to break, yet so important. Doctors and nurses in the pulmonary clinic address the use of medications to aid quitting. Following regular follow-up during the first 3 months, which is the cessation period, regular follow-up is carried out in order to prevent this in the first 1 year when the resumption rates are high.

INTERVENTIONAL PULMONOLOGY UNIT

Interventional pulmonology is a specialized branch of respiratory medicine dealing with advanced diagnostic / therapeutic bronchoscopy.. These procedures are required for the diagnosis of a range of lung diseases, or to provide symptom-relief.

This unit was reopened in late 2012 and is a state-of-the-art facility with two bronchoscopy rooms, a nursed patient recovery rooms. Consulting rooms are also located in the Pulmonary Institute. Patient referrals to the service are reviewed daily and appointments issued based on urgency and clinical need. The majority of bronchoscopic procedures are performed on  outpatient and inpatient basis.

PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST LABORATORY

Pulmonary function testing is a tool used to assess respiratory disease. Through the series of tests we offer at our Pulmonary Function Laboratory, we can accurately diagnose and monitor your child’s condition, ensuring we provide the most timely, effective treatment.

ALLERGY UNIT

The allergy and immunology clinic provides comprehensive care to improve the lives of our patients with allergy and asthma.  Procedures offered in the clinic include skin or blood tests.

SLEEP LABORATORY

Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a prevalent disorder and is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. OSAS is independently related to the cardiovascular risk factors that comprise metabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis, acute coronary syndrome, and sudden death.   Sleep Laboratory performs overnight sleep studies on infants, children and adolescents. During a sleep study, EEG is measured, along with eye movement, to assess sleep stages. Physiologic parameters typically recorded during a sleep study include pulse oximetry, end-tidal carbon dioxide monitoring, nasal and oral airflow, chest wall, abdominal and limb movement, ECG, and other parameters as indicated. This testing evaluates the presence and severity of central apnea, obstructive apnea, and also other respiratory events during sleep. CPAP/BiPAP titration is performed for patients with obstructive sleep apnea who require non-surgical intervention. Sleep studies also are performed to evaluate the need for nocturnal oxygen in patients with lung disease and the need for nocturnal ventilator support in patients with neuromuscular weakness.
